9 days THE HISTORY AND SCENIC POLAND

1st day Warsaw
Meeting at the airport. Welcome dinner at the hotel.

2nd day Warsaw
Breakfast. Morning city tour of Warszawa including Royal Castle.
Warszawa Warsaw Old Town was established in the XIII th. century. It impresses tourists with its quaint, cobbled streets and unique old architecture. The heart of the area is the Old Town Market Square with its unique traditional Polish restaurants, cafes and shops. When the weather is warm the square becomes filled with cafe tables, various traders and street artists.

The Royal Castle is a maginificent example of baroque style - it was built in the XIVth century. In 1569 King Zygmunt III Waza moved his residence to the Royal Castle as Warsaw became the capital of Poland. Between 1598 and 1619 the king had the Royal Castle restyled into a polygon by Italian architects. In XVIIIth. century King Augustus III turned the East Wing into Baroque style while King Stanislaw Poniatowski added the Royal Library. The Royal castle served as both a residence for the kings as well as hosted Sejm session.

The Warsaw Ghetto originally contained almost 450,000 people. By January of 1943,it was down to roughly 37,000 people. The rest had already been taken away to slave labor or death camps. Word got out that the Germans were going to finish off the ghetto, clean it out. Those half-starved, disease-weakened ghetto inhabitants decided to fight).

Lazienki Park is one of the most beautiful part of Warsaw - one of the most favorite places for walks for Varsovians and tourists. This romantic, landscaped park includes the Palace on the Water, together with various other palaces, pavillons, an amphitheater and two orangeries.

Palace of Culture and Science (competing with Warsaw Mermaid, it is 'the tallest' symbol of the capital - 234,5 metres high, also the biggest building of Poland. Both loved and hated)

A museum devoted to Chopin is located in the preserved annex of the former manor of the Chopin family, surrounded by a park. In summer, concerts of Chopin's music are performed by pianists from all over the world.

Częstochowa

Czestochowa is known for the famous Paulite monastery of Jasna Góra that is the home of the Black Madonna painting, a shrine of the Virgin Mary. Every year, thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to Częstochowa to see it. John Paul II visited Paulite monastery of Jasna Góra many times.
